Jay-Z at Barclays

October 4, 2012

I’m going to interrupt these Paris posts to bring you something a little but different.

Last weekend I went to see Jay-Z at the Barclays center in Brooklyn. It was my fifth time seeing him in concert so the mystery or illusion of what his concerts are was pretty much gone. The fact that he performed for almost a little over an hour (instead of his usual 1.5-2 hours) was also disappointing. The silver lining of the situation was that I had pretty good seats.

Another thing that you should know about the photos below is that, it is often very hard to take photos of rap or hip hop performers because of their movements. Jay-Z in particular rocks back and forth when performing (as opposed to Eminem who sways side to side like a boxer). Jay-Z rarely stands still and his “moments” (the point when a performer looks out into the crowd and soaks in everything around him) are few and far between.

I know this photo is blurry but there is something about the movement being captured that I like.

The next few photos made me feel like Jay-Z was not this larger-than-life figure. Alone on stage with nothing else- I almost want to call him by his real name.
