Beginning of Wynwood

December 20, 2013

The Wynwood district used to be the warehouse and manufacturing district of Greater Miami. Now the neglected warehouses are being developed to house various art complexes and other creative businesses. But what makes the Wynwood district special is it is becoming covered by street art.

Walking around Wynwood is like walking through a living thing. There are many different artists constantly making new art in a wide variety of concepts all over the district-leaving parts of themselves on every corner. Building after building, and block after block is being transformed into beautiful things. Even for an artist (like myself) it’s fascinating walking around watching the creative process.

What made me slightly depressed about walking around Wynwood was the fact there is nowhere in New York like this. No half a mile radius, which has been transformed into art. New York is supposedly one of the art capitals of the world, and yet people do not have the open mind to create an area like Wynwood. Which is quite shocking if you actually think about it.
